What is Raden craftsmanship?

Raden is a traditional Chinese decorative technique that involves inlaying nacre into lacquer or wood surfaces. The art of inlaying seashells or snail shells onto object surfaces, known as '螺钿' (luó diàn), originated during China’s Zhou Dynasty and has spread throughout East Asia. Shells used include abalone, blue pearl mussel, moon snail, white butterfly shell, mother-of-pearl, amber, and tortoiseshell.

With origins steeped in the luxurious adornments of the Far East, Raden is an art that requires the utmost precision and an eye for beauty. Fragments of luminescent pearl shells are delicately inlaid into jewelry pieces, creating an iridescent play of light that mirrors the mesmerizing depths of the ocean.
